ABC News reports that Los Angeles prosecutors arrested eight leaders of the Bell, California city government for their extravagant, unwarranted salaries.
Tuesday morning, former Bell City Manager Robert Rizzo was arrested, in addition to former Assistant City Manager Angela Spaccia. Their extravagant salaries brought investigators to check them out.
Other offenders include Mayor Oscar Hernandez, Vice Mayor Teresa Jacobo, council members George Mirabal and Luis Artiga, and former council members George Cole and Victor Bello.
"They used tax dollars as their own piggy bank, which they then looted at will," Los Angeles County District Attorney Steve Cooley said at a news conference.
The officials are being accused of taking $5.5 million.
