Twin Cities Marathon winner makes it a double


Buzunesh Deba of Ethiopia on Sunday became the first woman to win the Twin Cities Marathon and Grandma's Marathon in Duluth in the same year.
Deba, 23, posted a time of 2:27:24 to win the Twin Cities Marathon, according to the race's website -- about eight minutes ahead of the second-place finisher.
The men's winner was Sergio Reyes of Palmdale, Calif., with a time of 2:14:02.
Jeffrey Eggleston was second among the men, just seven seconds behind Reyes. Third was Fernando Cabada of Longmont, Colo., with a time of 2:15:25.
Second place among the women's finishers was Svetlana Ponomarenko of Russia, at 2:35:23. Serkalem Abrha of Ethiopia was third, at 2:36:16.
Top Minnesota finishers were Donovan Fellows of Woodbury, ninth among men with a time of 2:18:05, and Nichole Porath of Red Wing, 20th among women at 2:51:30.
Runners had good conditions for the marathon -- 41 degrees and sunny at start time. The Twin Cities Marathon is run from the Metrodome in Minneapolis to the State Capitol in St. Paul.
