Forget about turmoil in Egypt and the newly released Obama budget. We have more important news to digest: a new Sports Illustrated Swimsuit cover girl.

Last night, Russian-born Irina Shayk was unveiled as the 2011 frontwoman of the iconic magazine. Here's what you need to know about her.

1. From a remote region
Shayk, 25, was born in Yemanzhelinsk, Russia, a town in the South Urals, and grew up in Emangelynsk City. Her father was a Tatar -- an ethnic group found in Russia, Turkey and other Eastern and Central European countries -- and she says that's where she got her dark looks, which sometimes make people think she's Brazilian. Shayk was discovered while taking a three-day train ride from her hometown to Moscow in 2004. Incidentally, her real last name is the tongue-twisting Shaykhlislamova.

2. You've probably seen her before
Shayk should be a familiar face (or, uh, body) to SI Swimsuit issue fans: She has been in the magazine four other times but has never landed the cover before. She has also modeled for Lacoste, Guess and other high-end brands.

3. Dating a famous footballer
Shayk's boyfriend is soccer star Cristiano Ronaldo, who plays for Real Madrid. Ronaldo was there Monday night at "The Late Show With David Letterman" when Shayk found out she had landed the SI cover. They've been dating since early 2010.

4. Battled GQ over nudity
In the fall of 2010, Shayk blasted GQ Spain. Shayk claimed that GQ digitally removed the lingerie she wore during a photoshoot so it would appear that she was nude in several photographs.

5. Claims her dog is Hollywood royalty
Shayk says that her dog Cesare was fathered by one of the dogs who played Marley in the movie "Marley & Me."

Enough talk. Here's Shayk in action at the SI shoot.
