Dallas-area: brookhaven college lifts lockdown for gunman

FARMERS BRANCH, Texas — Dallas police say the student responsible for a Dallas-area community college being placed on lockdown has been hospitalized for mental evaluation.
Brookhaven College was locked down for about an hour Monday after a report that a suicidal male student with a gun was barricaded in a campus bathroom. The lockdown ended after a search by campus police failed to locate the student.
Dallas police spokeswoman Janice Crowther said police found the student — without a gun — in front of his residence and transported him to a hospital.
The episode began when witnesses told police the student wanted to kill himself. It comes a week after a University of Texas student shot himself to death in a campus library after opening fire on campus.
